New project of wiring a two storey office in Taunton

One of the biggest jobs carried out since Burridge Electrical has been trading

Myself and the owner of GEM Lighting and electrical were approached to carry out the installation of Data,Power and lighting including the lighting design and Emergency lighting, for a newly built two storey office.

Before the works was carried out I ensured the existing distribution board had enough spare ways, including taking a DbZs reading which helps in the design phase for the verification of cable size, length and voltage drop.

The job was straight forward, all cables were surfaced mounted or enclosed in Dado Trunking, and all fixed with metal fixings through out. Although the job was simple we did face a minor issue, the cable run was initially to be installed in basket then drop down into the Dado, But the gap between the ceiling and the newly proposed false grid ceiling was too short, so we had to resort to using metal banding for cable support above the grid ceiling.

Dado Trunking

We used a 3 compartment Dado to ensure the segregation of the band I and II circuits, a laser level was used to assist in the levelling of the Dado trunking so that all four walls are uni-formal and all risers were straight, as the floors were uneven to measure from.

Lighting

The lighting circuits was split between the two floors and then put into sections for switching. We used 600 x 600 LED panels in the offices and circular LED panels for the foyer area. For the Emergency lights we installed a mixture of maintained and non maintained LED bulkheads and LED Emergency spots, the switching for the Emergency lights is installed near the distribution board.

Air Con

We carried out the supply installation only for five AirCon units, four 16 amp and one 32 amp supply required. The cable used was SWA 3 Core cables adequately sized for current and length, coming from the distribution board down the external wall, along metal tray and terminated at each rotary isolator per AirCon unit

Data

A separate radial circuit was installed to power the Data Cab, including the use of Anti-Surge sockets. Around 90 CAT6E Data radials was installed between the two floors, again using the same compartment in the Dado to ensure segregation and to keep the installation uni-formal.
